I know the oil pans on these are known to corrode and start leaking and Engine oil pan on my Excursion is starting to get thin. It does have some sort of sealer on it from the previous owner. As far as I know to change it properly you need to pull the motor. So when I have to do that I was wondering what else I should replace. Maybe you guys have done it before? My theory is replace hard to reach parts while I have the motor out. I need to budget to do it so I am hoping to make a list of parts to buy.
thanks.
If you are pulling the engine and depending on your maintenance:
oil rail plugs in the back of the heads.
Turbo up pipe
r&r turbo and pedestal
Fan clutch
waterpump
intercooler
condenser
r&r fuel bowl and lines
TC if you think you might need one in the future
injectors and cups (depending on current mileage)
glow plugs
UVCH
Thank you guys. I did check the comments to but got to busy to reply. After changing oil last I knocked on the pan and it is getting kind of thin so I may have to do it sooner rather than later.
Don’t know if you are ready to pull the motor and take on the cost of all that should be done when it’s out? If not, there is a repair kit that I used to get me by until I had the funds to do everything I wanted to do. It has s a composite kit that glued on to your pan. I was kind of Leary about trying it but a local garage that works on a ton of diesels actually recommended it. Well.... it’s been almost 2 years and I still haven’t gotten around to yanking the 7.3. No oil leaks. I can’t remember exactly the name of the kit but I believe if you do a search for 7.3 oil pan repair kit it’ll get you there.

Thanks, I have seen those and might go with that for now. I do not have the money right now and it isn't leaking to bad yet but I know it will need to be fixed eventually. in the mean time I will be saving up to pull the motor.
A good humorous write on the engine removal: Home
I've also read removing the front clip makes it much easier.
I know this is an old thread, but man, I just went down the rabbit hole on his site. That write up about the oil pan replacement? Pure gold. I noticed I had rust on mine, and the thought of replacing it popped in my head, but im gonna wire brush it down and try rust reformer, IF it's not too bad... hopefully prolong pulling the motor for a little while.
