300 question And core support

So I went to my local salvage yard today and looked at a 300 straight six but I couldn’t tell what year it is but I know it’s not fuel injected but it’s buried under a shelf and in front of that shelf is a forklift and a vw bug does anyone know what years of 300 motor will work with my truck do they all use the same motor mounts and bell housing from 1965-1984ish I think and I’d like to use the 4spd that’s in my truck it’s a 1965 f100 and my other question is I’m looking at buying a core support for my 66 also but all I can find are the 65 2wd ones I know they will work does anyone know what I will need to modify it’s something with the inner fenders if I remember right

There shouldn't be any problem. I've got a '93 300 being worked on that I'm putting in my '66

As far as I know all 300's are the same up to the end. The EFI blocks don't have the fuel pump opening machined but I hear the cam has the lobe for the pump arm.
All the old manifolds will bolt onto a EFI head. What some do (me) is use the stock log intake manifold and the EFI exh. manifolds as they flow a litter better than the log exh manifold.
They say bolting on a 240 head will raise the compression half a point.

You did not say what motor & model transmission you have now.
Your motor mounts on either side of the motor or at the front as I don't know the older trucks?
I came from the 80-86 area ad the frame mounts are different for the 300 six than the 302 / 351w and again for the 460 motors so 3 different sets of frame mounts.

If I am wrong I am sure someone will speak up.

Does the 240 head have the same size valves and ports?

Yes they do. Generally they have a smaller volume than a 300 head. Check for threads on the differences or do a google search. They have different shapes as well.

Are the 352 or FE motor mounts the same for the 240 and 300 straight six

Motor Mount could be talking about two things. There is the Motor Mount Support, which many people call the perches. They attach to the frame and are the same 352 and 240/300 but each engine type uses different mounting holes for those supports.

Then there is the Motor Mount Insulator. They attach between the tops of the supports and the engine. These are different for the 352 versus the 240/300 types.

So, depending on which Motor Mount portion you are talking about you could both be right.

Yes, the left and right perches were the same from 1965-1968 for the FE engine and 1965-1972 at least for the 6 cylinder. The FE engine went to a different bracket for the drivers (LH) side in 1969 sometime when they switched from the bendix pump and gear to the saginaw pump and gear and needed it angled a bit differently for clearance.
