Trailer plug wiring

My boss has a 2006 6.0. He had body work done and now he has trailer lights but no blinkers. After crawling under the truck I see it is not wired the same as my 2000 7.3. There is a black wire coiled to the main plug harness. Is it a ground that need to be placed somewhere? I will attach a picture. He has a plug on the bumper and in the box and both do the same thing.

If the trailer has lights at all, it has a ground. Check the fuses first and if they are all good, use your multimeter to check the seven pin on the truck for voltage (meter black to frame ground, meter red to socket on seven pin, if you don't have a meter you can use a test light). You do not have voltage to the turn signals. You can use your meter to determine what the black wire is for. I always just use my meter to determine when wires are hot. It is quick and easy to do.

By convention, the black lead is normally the battery charge lead from the truck to the trailer to keep the trailer battery charged, but folks have been known to not follow color conventions when wiring.

thank you. I will check it out. Electrical is not my strong suit but I've been learning this year because everything I encounter is having wiring problems. Even my garage haha.
