So l am looking at 1960 f600 and it has the factory points dizzy still in it. Is there a Duraspark distributor that will physically bolt in? l have some other older fords that l have converted over and would like to do this upgrade when l own the truck!
That's a Y-Block, I do not believe a Duraspark distributor can be made to work without some serious contortions. # of gearteeth comes to mind for one thing. Good Y-block cores are somewhat hard to find too. If the distributor you have now is in good shape might think about just fitting a Pertronix Ignitor to replace the points and a Flamethrower ignition coil and bypass the wire harness ballast resistor for a hotter spark.
Y-Blocks can be converted to use a duraspark trigger. If using an Autolite distributor, machining is required. If using a Motorcraft distributor, then it is a very straight forward swap of the advance weight / points cam / points plate assembly with the comparable components from a Duraspark distributor and notching the body for the wiring grommet. I think you can even swap the Y specific components of a Motorcraft distributor into a Duraspark body. The distributor in my truck uses a duraspark body but I did not assemble it so I don't know if it is just a simple swap or not but it does confirm that it can be done.
A draw back to this is that repair parts aren't available for the advance mechanisms so you may need to go through a number of distributors to find components that are both acceptable and provide the advance you want.
