I don't know if I'm just missing something or what. I'm getting ready to pull my engine. Unbolted the headers, their not connected to the pipes underneath either, so I can move the headers around (and figured they could "stay in place" for the swap) and even with the increased movement there, I can not get enough room to get the starter out. Is there a sequence to these items going in and out that I'm missing? Heck, what if I wasn't pulling an engine, how would I change a starter on a header equipped engine?
Any advice or instruction would be appreciated. Thanks.
I can't speak to the 460 specifically. But sometimes headers are a pita with regards to starters. This includes having to jack the motor up with the header unbolted to get clearance... 0/10.
You will probably have to take the headers loose from the rest of the exhaust to get the starter out. Sometimes headers are not worth the small gain in performance you get from them.
Yeah, I'm seeing the PITA factor with these, lol! I was not planning on reusing them since the motor that is going in has good manifolds and exhaust pipes with it. I just figured disconnecting the headers and leaving them in place until the motor was out was the way to go. Not sure if the engine would come up and out with them connected. Either way, I'll get it out one way or another. Thanks for the replies.
