headers for 79; 460

does anyone know where i can find headers that will fit my truck with the least amount of modifications? my truck is a 2wd 79 f150 with a 460 and a c6. i tried dynomax (i think hedman makes them and dynomax coats them) and they hit the frame on pass. side and seemed toooo close to my starter. what do you think about shorties - good for limited room or not much different than manifolds?

I have a set of Hooker Super Comps on mine. There is at least a 1/2 inch clearance between the header and the frame rail. There are a few drawbacks to them though.

1. The passenger side header won't fit without lifting the engine or removing it completely. This may be because of the heater box on my truck though.
2. The header has to be loose to install and remove the starter. I may find out different if I have to replace my starter soon.

They are nice headers and seem to be built well. [link:www.landlproducts.com|L & L] may have headers for this application as well. They are expensive (around $400) but in my opinion, well worth the money.

I'm running the hookers also. No problems with them hitting. Though they are on there about 3rd or 4th time being on and off, and don't seal up along the head without about 3-4 gaskets on some.

I am running flowtechs on my 74 frame, I also have about 1/2" of clearence on the right but I also need to loosen up the header to remove and install the starter, but when the headers on the right are tight there is clearence for the starter Eric

460Ford ---

I use the L&L headers. It takes about 20 seconds to drop the starter. They have a wonderful 1" think mounting flange and do not warp ---- I'm using the MrGasket copper exhaust gaskets and header studs...the studs are really slick - makes mounting a lot easier!!
They have a special coating on them and have been used daily (110 miles) to work --- they still look brand new.
