I know i could ask them but I am curious if most everyone just uses what they send or if they have it further tweaked.
i installed the valve body part of a shift kit 2 years ago and that increased the transmission pressures, but the tunes also have increased trans pressures...i dont want to overdo it!
so after they sent tunes today I remembered i forgot to add that in my comments that I wasnt interested in increased presure but i did add that I had the shift kit already installed. So i contacted them and they sent some new files with stock pressures.
am I overthinking this? Does anyone run a shift kit as well as increased pressure from the tune? I think i am going to try the 87 performance tune first....
I talked to 5 Star a couple of times and ordered an 87 octane economy, 87 octane tow and 92 octane performance tow (for traveling over mountains).
I told them my engine/gear ratio mods and they sent me the tunes.
I was not aware you could order with different pressures. Have not towed yet, but am pleased with the 87 octane economy tune.
5 Star has some good people from Florence, SC.
I keep mine in the 87Perf mode almost exclusively. Have used the 91Tow a few times, but it tends to hold first gear a little too long for my liking when in town. I live at 6000ft and regularly cross the Continental Divide, with and without trailers. I've found unless I'm pulling more than 5000 lbs, I don't need the 91Tow very often. The 87Econ was useless to me out here. Of course, I ordered the tuner BEFORE I installed my gears. I make sure that I update the gear ratio whenever I'm changing tunes, but I'm not sure if they do anything different in their programming when they have this information up front.
Well, even at stock pressures the 87 perf tune shifts a bit hard for my taste with the shift kit installed, it might be the what seems to be slightly raised shift points causing that. But other than that fact I like how it drives and the torque converter actually stays locked.
i saw i could edit the shift pressures with the ITSX software so maybe might look into that. I also did ask SCT but haven’t got a response back about the shift points. Might just have to call tomorrow.
