Hello all, I have a 05 diesel CC SB Auto. I was thinking of putting a shift kit in my trans. I know that it's better to have firmer shifts than soft ones when towing. I have a SCT programmer I know I can have it firmed up with a tune. My thinking is it would be better with a real kit? Just want to know if anybody has any advice or pros or cons, to go old school with a shift kit or new school with just a programmer? or may be both? Thanks in advance
Why are firmer shifts in a 8,000 lb. truck better? The 5R100 has an excellent performance record and low failure rate if left alone.
Your engine has a computer. It works with the transmission. Modifying either affects the other. I've spoken with two transmission specialists who both said the number one reason for transmission failures they see in 6.0s is tuning the engine without modifying the programming of the transmission.
There is no shift kit, Custom Tunin is giong to do it right.
Agreed. Shifting on a 5R110 isn't necessarily about "firmness" it's also about time between shifts. You can get an SCT tuner with a transmission only tune that, IMHO, will increase/improve transmission life dramatically.
I think the only "shift kit" is the modified solenoids that you can buy. I've heard you can also adjust a screw on the stock solenoids to increase shift pressure, but haven't tried that myself.
