Angry Dead zone - Pedal Commander or ?

I bought a 2018 new SRW 6.7 and one thing that has been driving me nuts is the dead zone at 100/60mph when pulling roughly 10,000lbs. Doesn't matter if I'm in reg. or tow/haul the truck likes to drop to 6th with rpms around 1200 and have to constantly keep my foot into it resulting in poor mileage. If I drive the truck at 120kmh/70mph the rpms are high enough that the truck carries speed. When I pull my 5th wheel 18000lbs I don't notice it as much as the RPMs carry higher through the gears. Regular driving not much of an issue.

I just drove a friends 2020 Duramax with the same trailer/load on a 5hr run, I actually had to take my foot off the pedal as I was speeding a majority of the time. I couldn't believe the difference it felt like the duramax had twice the HP and didn't even notice the load being pulled.

Anyway just curious if a Pedal commander it the way to go or should I look at a banks or some other options to cure the problem as the P-Commander seems to have been around for awhile. I know my previous 6.0 it wasn't till I got the tune before the truck was really fun to drive and made towing more effortless.

Appreciate any suggestions / experiences.

You ever try cruise control for the hwy runs or manual mode?

Cruise control I find just kills the fuel economy.

What troubles me most is the difference between the Duramax and my truck. Apparently Chevy used some of this technology (Pedal commander) plus the new 10 speed transmission - it averaged a lot better (2-3 mpg) than my truck on mileage.

It was just effortless which is what has me bummed out. No dead zone.

you might try something like banks derringer. That is an emission on tuner that may allow for more response.

I had a '17 and an '18 SRW 6.7 and never experienced anything like that. Have you taken it in to see if the Ford techs could identify and determine if there is an issue with your truck? Most of my towing is pulling a gooseneck trailer and not a 5th wheel camper though. Same weight but probably not as much wind resistance.

The 2017-2019 trucks had the torque curve moved up to keep the bottom end happy with the increased torque. They like to “gear hunt” in 6th under 1800 RPMs in most conditions towing heavy. I usually lock 6th out a lot on most situations in and around that speed as it wants to downshift a bunch in that speed area.

I wouldn’t waste time with the Pedal Commander. Try locking 6th out to keep the RPMs up in the high teens.

As I mentioned earlier the truck is fine with no weight or a lot of weight. I pull a 5th wheel with a 16000lb dozer and a toy hauler roughly the same your foot is into it anyway so you don't notice it. In Ontario we have a lot of rolling hills so the gear hunting gets really annoying after awhile. Its pulling with light trailers that that you constantly have to keep your foot into it. Like you mentioned it wants to shift to 6 at like 1300rpm, I shouldn't need to lock out 6th if I'm pulling 5000lbs trailer with the power this truck has. Just feels like the gearing is off. Its odd as well that the trailer/tow does nothing unless your pulling a lot of weight.

Me I just find the pedal really heavy so I thought a pedal commander would help. However, I didn't want to spend $400 on a pedal commander when I could put that money towards a banks or something that involves a slight tune for just a few more $.

Taking it to a dealer would be a waste of time as its something you really pick up on unless you do a lot of driving. The 35 tires don't help either.

Re-gear for the bigger tires.

35s do slightly magnify the situation. If you are looking into the Pedal Commander, I’d skip and head for the Banks. If you are seeking a power increase/better trans tuning, look at a reputable tuner with DPF ON tuning. I’m running delete tuning. It helps the situation you are describing. I tow with a 0HP/Emission’s OFF/Enhanced Trans tuning file that I’m really happy with.

Check out this guy's channel on YouTube. He's got videos on there with your gen truck pulling bigger loads with a Derringer.

For example, at a red light everyone runs off and leaves you and you feel like you just keep pressing the pedal and nothing much happens. Then you switch to city, sport or sport + and the light turns green and you almost run them over because the pedal is so responsive . I love it just need to find what setting works best for me. Also, each setting can range from 1 to 4 on the device. I put it in sport + 4 last night and the truck was jumping all over the place. Kind of fun but the New Orleans street wasn't the place for it.
The pedal commander sounds like an easy fix however with the banks system for a few hundered more you can get a performance improvement. Looks like I will go that route. I just find the truck to lazy based as it doesn't react quickly to pedal input and a heavy pedal on the hwy. I was hoping to avoid performance ad ons as I went down this road with the 6.0 which got costly. Oh well.

Appreciate the comments.
