79 351w starter support brace

Thank You in advance for your help with this.
I have a 79 F350 with 351w and a c6 transmission. I do not have the support bracket that is in the back of the starter
that goes from Starter to engine block .
I think it’s supposed to have one
If someone would have a picture of it that would be great maybe I could make one. Or a part number be great too.
Thank You all
Leon

Welcome to FTE, lots of good people here.
Question, are you sure it's a 351W? Ford didn't put the 351W in this era truck. If it's factory it should be a 351M...two different engines.

Yes it’s a Windsor
not a Modified or a Cleveland
possibly someone swapped it in the past

Looked in the truck parts catalog and don't see anything that looks like a support bracket. I'll check the passenger car catalog.

It just seems like it should
there is even a tapped hole in the block in the right spot.
and there are only 2 bolts that hold it on
I could be wrong it wouldn’t be the first time.
thank you for you help

I checked the passenger car parts catalog too and don't see anything about support bracket for the starter.
I don't recall see one on a 351 or a 302 for that matter.

Ah I see we got a GM guy here.

Fords did not use a starter brace in most all automotive applications on the small blocks as they were not needed. The only things that got them were industrial and severe service applications.
GM used them cause their starter housings were much thinner castings and not nearly as strong as the Fords.

Yup the standard and the autos use different starters. So the application is a 351W with an auto (C6)

Avoid off shore new ones and rebuilds of off shore units. Opt for a rebuild of a genuine Ford unit. The reason being some of the off shore castings have fitment/alignment issues.

Can you post up a picture of the starter area of the engine? Or just the whole engine anyway, since we like pics of trucks around here!
What exactly did not fit with the new starter?

Paul
