I have a 97 7.3 when I let off the throttle the engine shutters real bad then smooths back out. If I let off easy it doesn't happen only when I let odd fast. Please help. Any ideas of what it could be. Check engine light comes on but it doesn't set a code.
If CEL comes on you probably have a code. You reader just can't read it unless the reader is for these trucks, like AE or forscan and others. Cheep walmart or parts house will not work.
Mine did this when I got it about a year ago-- I'm assuming it's dropping to just above 500 RPM on the shudder? I had no codes but I'd check your engine valley (particularly your lift pump and the associated hoses) for fuel leakage. This ended up being my problem so I replaced them and the shudder is gone for good.
Now that I think about it more, I also replaced the valve cover gasket on one side due to corrosion in the electrical plug there at the same time. Corrosion in the plug to the injector on one of the cylinders is more likely to have been the cause of the shudder when I think about the system.
