Is there anything on these trucks similar to the FIPL in older IDI engines? I have a 1996 E4OD with a rebuilt transmission and heavy duty torque converter that started locking and unlocking strangely after the PO replaced a lot of stuff on the engine, including the PCM.
There are pedal position sensors on the accelerator pedal. There is nothing like a FIPL that can be adjusted.
Read the codes. Forscan is the best way to do it, you can download it free at forscan.org. You will need an ELM327 adapter to connect to the truck. I bought one for less than $30 from Amazon.
With no check engine light or flashing OD light, would there still be codes? The TC seems to be unlocking and locking at the wrong times, makes it feels like I'm driving an 8 speed while accelerating up to hwy speed. If I am not giving it extra gas at 65, it will unlock. If I just try and cruise it'll go back and forth. And in reverse, it'll die unless you're giving it gas because I think the converter is locking when it shouldn't and bogging it down.
Edit: So I actually had brake lights staying on, I unplugged them when I realized. I went and got a new switch for it and found out that if you don't pull the pedal all the way up, the lights come on. So I drove the truck to town and back, max 45mph. Pulled the brake pedal back up every time I used it, and it shifted great. Maybe I can get it out on the highway tomorrow and see how it does at hwy speeds. Now how do I keep this pedal up? I searched for answers with no luck. Is the booster rod threaded where I can twist it out a turn or two and reconnect pedal?
