Hi I just got finished installing.Ez wire 21 circuit harness in my 1955 ford f100. The truck was running fine and then it would not start. I could not hear the pump running so I checked the fuse. Then I checked the ground that was good. I also checked with a test light to see if I got power and I had power. So I bought. new pump and installed it but still it doesn't work. So I checked for power, ground and both where good. But when you turn the ignition to accessories to the left it wont turn on the pump. Im lost is there something Im missing. The pump should come on with power and ground? Could it be ignition switch?
Thanks
Jerry
Can you make the pump run using jumper wires in place of power and ground?
Where are you checking for power and ground on the pump circuit? are you checking right at the pump? or at a connector going to the pump?
You mentioned that the pump won't run in the "accessories" position. That might be normal, Does the pump work in the "Run" position?
I haven't tried jumping the pump with a switch.I checked to see if power was coming thru the wire and to the pump. So I have power thru the connector. I put the ground for my test light to the found for the pump and I have power. These are all at the pump near the gas tank. In accessories or full start I get nothing from the pump. Could It be the ignition switch. be a place to look? Basically the pump should go on if it has power and ground?
Thanks
Jerry
The pump (I assume you mean the fuel pump) should only have power in the run position. You do Not want it to have power on acc. position and you don't need it in the start position. You don't want the pump running if you are trying to listen to the radio for example. Just because you have ground at the pump does not mean you have power at the pump, try checking each side of the circuit independently.
The fuel pump would go on when I turned the key to accessories. But now it doesn’t do that. I understand your reasoning about pump on when your listening to the radio. But I’m just trying to figure out why the fuel pump doesn’t pump. It has power and ground.

You might try adding a relay in case you are getting a voltage drop through the switch which could cause the pump to not run. Do you have 12 plus volts at the pump?

If you have a continuity tester you can test the switch and rule that out. There are ways to do it without a continuity tester, but it is the easiest way.
I think we need to clarify the ignition positions so we're all on the same page. A typical ignition switch has the following positions;
"Accessories" - one notch to the left (counter-clockwise). This position typically give you power to stuff like the radio, some interior lights, etc
"Off" - the position where you can insert and remove the key
"Run" - one notch to the right (clockwise). This position will put power to all components; ignition, fuel pump, AC, fans, etc plus any circuits powered in the "Accessories" position.
"Start" - all the way to the right (clockwise). This is a temporary position that should supply power not only to the ignition but will also energize the starter circuit. More than likely the fuel pump will have power here also.
I would try to directly put 12V to the fuel pump at the connector to the fuel pump and see what happens.
Unless the switch has been changed the 53-55 do not have a start position as they have a starter button switch, but yes you are correct that is the standard switch configuration for years.
Thanks for all the posts. But I am no longer stumped. I tried to make sure I got power and a good ground to my fuel pump. I checked fuse and they were fine. So for giggles I put in a battery from another car. And the pump started to make sounds. Then I tried to start my truck and it did. I guess the battery in my truck was enough to spin the motor but not drive accessories. But everything is fine. So lesson is make sure you have a fully charged battery. I feel dumb but if I can’t own up to things who can.

I'm glad I'm not alone in this world. I can't count how many times I've "over thought" a problem when the whole time it was something simple and basic that was staring me in the face.
Thanks for letting us know and I'm glad you got it figured out.
