This seems like the simplest of things to do and maybe I’m missing something here but I feel totally stupid asking this. How do I replace the crank ****? Mine are pretty much gone, I bought replacements from LMC and can get old ones off. They do NOT have a screw holding them in. It seems to be a pressed in river of some sort. The replacements have the push in rivet, adhesive cap, a little odd shaped ring and a screw. I also have an 84 E350 van that has same setup. The cranks are in great shape so hate to replace those as well.
Agreed. Just replace the entire handle. I applaud your efforts on wanting to keep the originals but in this case, it's such an abundant and insignificant part, it's just simpler to replace them entirely.
Yes it is a rivet, easier and faster to just replace the complete handle. The are reproduced by a number of companies. Dennis Carpenter, Jeff Bronco Graveyard, Nationial Parts Depot....
But since you already have the pieces to replace them, and the old ones are off. Goodle/Utube "how to buck a rivet" and go for it. Worse case you have to buy a complete repop assembly.
I replaced both my 77 F-150 window crank handles from a 1989 F-500 we were junking at work, they fit perfectly and they're metal. You might consider checking your local junk yards, if you want to retain Ford parts.
I second eqcmcat junk yards are the best spot to get window cranks. Everytime i go to pick and pull i always seem to leave with a couple. I always seem to have one a year break or so. All these people use to newer cars think you have to turn it like a rusty bolt and pop the roller off.
