2011 e250 trans question
I've called around on pricing and install. I pretty much have 3 options.
#1 quoted $2500 bye local repair shop that said he rebuilds mine. Nationwide warranty I think 3 year.
#2 buy a warrantied trans from autozone for about $1800 plus tax, take it somewhere have cooling flushed install ect .
#3 pay a local mobile mechanic to drive 1 hour to bigger city to pull 2 transmissions that I see in a local u pull and pay and stick one in and hope for the best, of course flushing lines, cooler before install or just get a new cooler.
this van never had a tow hitch or bumper mount hitch so I know for a fact never towed anything but people .
I'm open for suggestions, this is my first ford w this motor trans combo. Thank you guys!
I will be using this as a weekend warrior slash daily driver sometimes. Maybe tow a small boat occasionally.
FWIW I have an '05 E350 extended body whose transmission lasted all of 375 miles after I purchased it in October of 2017. It literally failed while idling in the driveway on its way to the Ohio DMV. Sadly it was a Ford reman'd transmission, replaced under factory warranty a few years and maybe 30K miles before I came along. During the test drive it was fine, the trip home completely uneventful. When my transmission guy went through it he said he'd never seen one so thoroughly destroyed, parts he'd never replaced before drove cost to just over $900 and took an extra week.
That was done December of 2017, about 14K miles since and its been flawless. Hoping the best for you Man Van!
if I were you I would replace the radiator and new trans oil cooler.
My re-man / new tranny options + install were $2400-$3500 with a minimum 2 week turnaround time. I had just bought the van a couple months prior for $3500 and made some repairs (83k miles was my buying point).
Edit: the pick n pull offers a 1 year warranty for, I think, 20% more. If the tranny doesn't work I coulda just taken it back and got another one. Would have had to pull it again which took my nubile self around 6 hours but... oh well. It was frugal.
