You probably know I am new to 7.3L Powerstrokes as I bought a used 2000 F250 Superduty Lariat. It doesn't idle like my 1986 F250 XLT Dually with the 6.9 IDI. The Powerstroke fires right up and idles at about 750 or so RPM but after about 3 to 5 minutes it will idle up to 1000 RPM and stay there until I touch the brake pedal to put her into drive or reverse.
Is that the way the powerstrokes are supposed to work and if so why? Any advice or explanation will be appreciated!
Yeah it's almost always cold way up here on the peninsula of washington state near Port Angeles. Stays in the 50's till end of May-June then warms to about 75, but can get a few 80 and 90 degree days in the middle of summer.
When the (ebps) Exhaust Back Pressure System activates the PCM will bump up the idle speed. It is a flap next to the turbo. Mine actually seized halfway shut so I deleted it as its rarely cold in southern alabama
