front bumper questions

On the 93-96 f150 body style, what's the purpose of the cut-outs on the front bumper? was it just a style thing or does it have a function? I got a free chrome bumper with the cut outs, but i like the look of the solid bumper with impact strips better. Also the cut out one is brand new, and mine is a little beat up. Is there any good reason to have the cutouts instead of the solid?

-thanks, JP

both style and function, if you happen to have auto, a/c, and tow package, helped cooling, especially in warmer climates

They were for the diesel trucks with the deep radiators. The holes let air flow to the bottom portion. if you notice they didn't come out till 1994 when the powerstrokes came out

Who knows the actual reason but in use there is no added cooling difference between the two.

There certainly is! When driving my '97 F350/460, my feet are always cold when it's zero or below!

Fair enough I was just referring to the engine temperatures and cooling system. Put a winch bumper on with no difference. Put a newer bumper on older truck, no difference. Had one diesel with no bumper for a while, no difference. So auto trannys and cooling go hand in hand and other than an auxiliary cooler to help there is nothing happening with the bumper holes and cooling, cover them with lights, put on a winch bumper... nothing in the bumper will noticeably change cooling efficiency of the unit.

Well those holes are there to go with the larger radiator, especially when towing
