I wanted to mount the head for my ham radio in the sunglasses holder. Theres enough room in the factory setup that I could mount the head in the sunglasses holder and still be able to close it and make it disappear which was the goal to hide it if you parked in a bad area or something.
I did this, works nicely, except that the damper is not strong enough for the weight of the radio head, so it sorta flops open instead of opening slowly. Otherwise, it works very well.
Those are cool mounts. I wanted to mount the head for my ham radio in the sunglasses holder. Before I cut / drill on the factory sunglasses holder door I wanted to get a second one just in case I wanted to go back to stock, so far I cant find just the factory sunglasses door, ford only sells it as a part of the whole overhead console near as I can tell.
Look at 'alabamatoy's' setup in the post after yours' - click on his link - he did exactly what you're thinking and it came out great!!!

Yes, I read the prior thread already, thats what gave me the idea to try that location for either a new Kenwood 710 or a second FT-400 I have already. The FT-400 head fits the sunglasses holder as is and will open and close as well without any modification. I would do what you did, but I would want to do it with a second "spare" door in case I ever wanted to go back, I messed up or I decided to change radios / location in the future. Finding a spare door is harder that I would have thought! I will post up when I figure it all out and install something.
