I just received my 05 Ex a couple weeks ago. For some reason the MPG/Compass does not work. If I give a tap on the sides of the console it lights back up again. Then about 30 seconds later it fades away. Just wondering if anyone had this issue and a fix, or do I need a new one?
Thanks for any help.
I took off the overhead console and disconnected the compass harness. Reconnected everything and still nothing. Wiggled the wire harness at both connections, and nothing. I can get it to come on for a couple of seconds if I lightly smack the side of the console. Are these expensive to replace?
I used this guy on Ebay to repair both the overhead consoles on my F-250 and Excursion at ran @ $30. He was very quick with the turn around. Had it out of the shop either the day of or the day after receiving it from me. There is also another guy in Florida on ebay that does it. Here is the link:
I fixed mine yesterday. I had never done any soldering before, so it didnt look pretty, but its working again. Took about 30 minutes for the entire process. Only cost me $15 for the soldering pen. I'd recommend giving it a shot.
I repaired mine myself the first time. It worked almost a year and quit. Decided to send it to the Ebay folks and get professional help. Everything woked except for the compass. I contacted Steve at www.autoclockrepair.com. This time everything work like a new one. Good, fast service at a good price. My $.02
