MAF Sensor replacement alternative

This may be common knowledge but I just replaced my MAF sensor in my 97 AWD for $20 .I went to the local junkyard and they matched up my MAF numbers and it seems the Explorer MAF is identical.Anyway I got a sensor for 20 bucks and it was as clean as new. It seems the Explorer sensor is sealed in an air drum and thus stays cleaner than our Aerostar ones.Just thought Id mention it to anyone contemplating changing their MAF. Cleaned mine three times and it still didnt work right-twenty dollars later my Codes are gone and I'm running again.

Are you replacing the whole cast unit unit or just the black box that's on top that has those wonderful security torx? I've just taken off the black box and sprayed the thermistors with electrical contact cleaner.

Thanks for the tip.

No I didnt look into using the Explorer drum unit-though the junkyard handed me everything for my $20. I just spent acouple bucks at NAPA and bought the Torx tamper resistant bits and changed it.

Cool. That's great to know. I wonder what other parts are common with the Exploder 4.0? Idle Air Control perhaps?
