Diff. Problems....
The first thing I noticed when I got under there was that the oil plug is stripped, and cannot be gotten out without an air ratchet or impact wrench. Two tools that I do not own, of course... I know it is low, the question is how low, and I can't even get it off to add any....
Another thing I noticed was that the bottom of the body as well as the suspension on the driveshaft end of the Rear was covered with grease, some fresh gear oil, mixed with dirt of course... This would indicate that the seal where the driveshaft goes into the diff. is leaking, correct? What is that seal called?
The cover needs to be replaced as well, but I am convinced that it is not the only problem back there, and by far a less worrysome problem compared to the seal leak.
The ID tag on the rear end says S696C
373 75 2F02
What I can make out of that is it has 3.73:1 gears in it, and it is a 7.5 inch rear.... Is there anything else in those numbers that is important?????
Thanks,
Mike
It sounds like the pinion seal on your diff is leaking. Mine has a slow leak as well, and I will need to tackle this in the near future. I am open to instructions on this...
When you say the fill plug is stripped, do you mean its threads are stripped? Or is the square hole stripped? If it's the former, you might be able to drill it out and re-tap the hole for a bigger pipe plug. If it's the latter, you can drill out the old plug and get a new one.

What I mean by the plug is stripped is that the 3/8 inch square hole is stripped. Some idiot used an air wrench on it and over torqued it, at least that is my guess, I can't prove it though. I'll just have to buy a new plug...
I don't think I am going to attempt the Pinion seal myself. I know a local mechanic who will most likely get to have that honor... I don't think I could bear the pleasure myself.....
