I have a 2002 Excursion 4x4 with the 6.8 V10 that I got about 4 months ago. I'm putting in a New Switch Panel with a couple of new Rocker Switches (ie: Front Locker, Fog Lights, Light Bar, Rear Lights all the lights will be LED's, Compressor, Ham Radio) that will run thru a 40 Amp Light Relay. My question is where in the Engine can i get a power source that is on when the Key is on and when the in the accessory side is on? I want to use that as the trigger source for the relay so that the Switch Panel isn't always on.
I would prefer a source in the Engine Compartment but a coming on the interior fuse panel would be ok. Any help or ideas would be greatly approcated.
There's the fuse box on the drivers side fender. Otherwise there are 4 wires through the firewall for accessories. I don't remember where they are located though, maybe one of the other members does.
where is your relay going to be? under the hood, or in the cab? If you're just wanting to trigger the relay, there are a few options inside, in the harness under the steering column, and a few other places. You could even tie it onto the radio if you wanted. I dont recall the colors off the top of my head.
I believe there is only one circuit from the ignition switch that is live in both the Accessory and On positions, (such as for the radio.) Take a look at the wiring harness from the ignition switch and the wire you want is usually BK/LG. That wire runs from the switch to the CJB where it powers a couple of fuses. From the CJB the circuit then runs to the Battery Junction Box where is supplies power to the wiper relays. So look for the BK/LG wire at the BJB and see if it's live only in the Accessory and On positions.
