Hey guys in current in a bit of a pickle. I'm trying remove the shifter handle on my truck because I'm putting new carpet in I was hoping it would've had a couple bolt but all I see is this. I have the RTS transmission (t170ft) if you could guide me through this it would be appreciated
I can't find it exactly, but here are some things to try. Push down and turn on that round piece and see if it unlocks the shifter. You could also push down and twist the shifter shaft itself and see if that works.

Thanks franklin my dad took it under his own power to just measure twice and cut a little sliver and it ended up working just fine. Thanks for the response
I just put carpet in my 84 and you have the same transmission as me. Your finished product looks great! Just so you have the know how in the future, to remove this shift you can use a strap oil filter wrench or some larger channel locks and rotate the base of the shifter. It is very fine threaded and the metal body being so close makes is sort of a pain, but this is how to remove it. I also tried longer then I care to admit at pushing in the side pins in hopes to remove the longer portion of the shifter stick itself. Take care

Is your grey interior a factory color? It gives a much more modern look to these trucks..........I like it.

Thanks! Yeah its gray and I order a couple samples of carpet for free
and I chose the one that look like it would've came from the factory like this. I had the old vinyl mat in my truck I loved it but it was just tired, ripped and worn out. So far I love it. Ita molded like perfect.

Thanks buddy for the reply! I'll have bookmark this for future reference
I also went with a grey carpet. I am in the process of repainting all of the panels now. Next I will attempt at repairing the dash and then painting it grey as well. I even went and installed door panels from a 88-91!
