How do you replace the shifter boot?
This is on a 5 speed F-150. I've got the shifter off and the old boot off. The **** is stuck on, and I don't really want to force it off, especially since the one in my truck comes off all the time because someone forced it off. The bottom of the shifter will fit through the outer boot, but not the inner. Going from the top looks to be just as tight. Any tips on doing it without ripping the inner boot?

The **** is pressed on. Heating it with a hair dryer may getit warm enough to expand and remove it, but no guarantees as to if it won't come off again. I'd say remove it, replace the boot, and use a good glue to put the **** back on.
