Remove the shifter boot.
As you look at the top of the shifter tower, you should see a cap around the shifter.
This cap screws out.
Slip joint pliers or a channel lock type pliers may be needed to get it loose.
There is a spring and a couple other parts in there that will come out with the shifter.
Just pay attention to how they come out so you can install them later.
Hold your hand on the shifter as you remove the cap, the spring pressure is not great, but you don't want the shifter to fall out and hit you.
I just had to take mine off last week when I was pulling the cab off. You have to take off the shifter boot and there is a collar at the base of the shifter that has to spin off. I took a big adjustable pliers to hold it firmly and turned it to the left. It should break loose fairly easily. Once you spin that off the shifter lifts out.
When you lift out the stick there is a small pin that holds the stick in place so it will stay in the shift rails. It is what keeps the stick from twisting. It goes in sideways at the very top. Make sure you get it. It will fall in the trans. It is a little guy. About 1/4" diameter by about 1/2" long.
You can seperate the stick where that red dot is if you push both of them in and pull hard, but, it's much easier to just unscrew the cup and remove the whole works from the trans.
