Well, I found my P/S leak. This thing has probably been leaking for decades!!!! I believe that it was the cause of the inches of gunky mess all under the truck when I bought it. It looks like the seal at the top of the mechanism where the steering shaft comes into the unit is the culprit. Can just that seal be replaced or am I looking at a rebuild?? I really don't want to pull the steering column.
The sad part is.... the system works like a dream!!!!!

You need the P/S gearbox input shaft seal kit, but as long as the box is out, you should replace the sector shaft seal kit as well.

Yes, the seal can be replaced without tearing into the box itself, in fact I strongly recommend you DON'T take the box apart unless you've done it before. They can be tricky to reassemble correctly.
There is a dust seal to remove, the you'll have a snap ring. After that there are two seals and a spacer. Easiest way I've found to remove the seals is to get a small sharp center punch and punch two small holes 180 degrees apart in the seal, then get two sheetmetal screws and screw them into the holes and pry the seals out.
This can be done with the box still mounted in the truck but it is much, much easier with the box out of the truck.
