V10 Excursion DT360 swap
V10 Excursion DT360 swap
Ok I bought a 2000 Excursion with a V10 with the original plan of a Cummins swap, although the more I look at the DT360 sitting in the corner of my garage, I’m thinking it sounds like a different option. I have found threads online where people have done it, but not really what all is really involved in making it fit. I would like to keep the stock trans if possible, possibly 5r110. I’m not planing on building big power. Just something different that gets better than 8-10mpg. Has anyone here done that swap? Or know how much more involved than the Cummins swap would be?
I've done it and it all depends on your fab skills , as there is some fab work to do. I don't think you can get an adapter for the 5R100 as the one I got was for the 4R100 from the only guy that make them , but I could be wrong.
It would be easier to swap a cummins in cause everybody makes kits for that swap. I did my swap in a 97 F350

- thanks. I’ve seen where guys have swapped the SD but not what all they had to do. I really like the idea of the DT being it isn’t as common as the Cummins and already having the engine vs buying another one is a plus. What for mileage are you getting out of yours?
I’m looking at adapters for the Transmision, I would rather not have to buy another trans at the moment but would a gas 4r100 hold up to a dt360 or should I upgrade to a 5r100 or diesel 4r100? Other than the obvious bolt pattern difference is there any internal differences from gas to diesel 4r100s?
I don't measure fuel mileage, as it is what it is. When its empty I fill it. I am not sure on the trans internal differences. The adapter I bought was for a Diesel 4R100 so that's what I used.
