Question Ever seen this before?

Hey guys, today I finally got around to changing the jets on my Eddy 500 I went with .083 in the primaries and .092 for the secondaries. because I always had a problem with spark plugs fouling out. hopefull this is the trick i noticed that it started up way better and it likes to wind up a little better with out the bog off idle. I also change the rods to 62x52 I believe

This photo is what was waiting for me when I took the carburetor off today. I thought it was gasket. Now I used to have a open plenum spacer but when I had my DUI dizzy installed along with the Eddy 500cfm. My mechanic said that a four hole spacer would be better and that it was a hard plastic this was about 3 years ago I pulled the carb off once since then and it didn't look like this.

Now I want your honest opinion whats better on a open plenum???
I have the C series offy manifold

The 4-hole spacer should work fine. You don't need any more plenum volume. But get one that will withstand the heat and today's fuels.

This is off topic, 100%, so disregard unless you like distractions. Having said that, it looks like that spacer adjusted itself for the best flow. Wonder if you could use that for a template to make one from billet aluminum. Wonder how that one flows compared to a stock one.

Not sure but could see that it wants to go clockwise. I wanna believe that the airflow is almost making a tornado effect.

It at the very least had the most resistance in the direction it moved.

An aluminum one is probably cheaper. A phenolic one would work better to insulate the carb from heat if that is a problem.
That distorted one may be dangerous if the throttle plates at WOT decided to hang up on the distortions.

Ive never had a overheating issue that I know. I wanna believe this probably happened during a local cruise night here in town last year I notice that my gauge was peaking but nothing that scared me but I did park it so it could cool down. I couldnt imagine if I was running coolant to the intake what would've happened to that spacer.

Wow, that spacer is fascinating. It had to have gotten pretty toasty at some point.

This is the one I run on mine and really like it. Got it about 5 years ago and it looks brand new every time I've taken it back off.

The distortion might have been due to heat-soak, after shutting off a hot engine.

What are the chances you could run two? Use the fancy aluminum one with a phenolic one on top?

I dont want the carb sitting way high either lol I have a 2 inch plaster spacer in the garage but I dont wanna use that for that reason. I could cut it in half but I dont wanna weaken the spacer.

You would still have the metal one next to heat (manifold) and that would transfer the heat to the other and do the same thing again.

BTW I know someone that had the same thing happen with his newly rebuilt 302 and like you was never run hot not even a little.
I don't remember what he did for a new spacer?

I was talking about the heat resistant fiber ones to help with vapor locking.
