You will definitely need to notch your stock pistons or buy aftermarket pistons that can even clear that much lift. Aftermarket heads are strongly recommended with this cam, otherwise, you’re just wasting your money. If you need the best drag racing cam possible, then the Z303 cam is for you.
it has less lift than your cam your looking at .549/.565, duration isnt helping, if this is going in a truck you will sell it when your done, see below what options you have, quite a few

A question about the 3 cams listed in orange. The notes say they've been made to work with SD computers. Will they work with MAF computer? They all have <220 duration@ .050" lift and 114 LSA, so will they pass CA smog check?

The Z303 is not that radical. I'm running it in my 331 with Canfield's equivalent of AFR165's with 1.7 rockers and the powerband is pretty broad from 1500 to 6500 rpms. With the 1.7's the lift is .587, the duration @ .050 is only 228*. The B cam is the sleeper. I ran it with the same heads on a 302 with a Vic Jr and 1.7s. it would pull to 7500 in that combo. Got wicked idle too. The only one that might pass CARB is the E cam. Its got a CARB number the rest do not

The short answer to that is no.

Thanks Gents,

So that's "no" on Comp 35-304-8, 35-351-8, and Crower 15511. Can all the ones in green pass smog?

I vaguely remembered the E-303 having the EO, and I found the doc at Ford Performance:

https://performanceparts.ford.com/do...shaftSpecs.pdf

That surprised me, since it has 220 duration at .05, and 110 LSA. I thought that combination would produce poor emissions. Is it the 0 overlap at .05 that keeps it clean? I note that all the other -303 cams have 10 degrees of overlap. Still trying to understand cams.

Putting it in a 351 displacement engine will tame the specs somewhat. So it'll have a better chance of passing smog than in a 302. This is true for all engines. A cam that's a big rumpity rump in a small engine, sounds and behaves completely different in a larger displacement engine

That's what I heard, and my intention is to use it in the 331 stroker that I'm still planning.

If you believe the Car Craft magazine, the stock Mustang HO cam with a pair of AFR 65 heads can generate 400 HP, with the right intake:

https://www.hotrod.com/articles/ford...ngine-buildup/

(I know it says "Hot Rod, but I'm sure it was originally a Car Craft article.)

I'll be using an EFI setup with either a ported Explorer or GT40 tubular intake, so I might make the same power with the right cam in a bigger displacement.
