You should have recieved a recall letter, and a notice on your FordPass app, if you use that. Its supposed to fix, or help avoid the possibility of an unintended tail gate opening. I guess moisture can get into some part of the tailgate electrical and cause the tail gate to open unintentionally.
Mine did it a few times but I think it was my fault going for the e brake. Thought about disconnecting the switch but I paid for the options I’d like to use them.
After destroying one tailgate, had recall work done, and tailgate still drops unexpectedly without warning!! FORD does not know what is really causing this issue! I think it may be time for a class action lawsuit as this problem is extremely dangerous!!
Mine never dropped before they performed the recall. After the recall it happened twice; lucky I was not towing at the time. I took it back and they worked on it again; still waiting to see if it will drop again. Does anyone else find it odd that, in these high tech trucks, there is no driver notification if the tailgate opens (unless you put the truck in reverse)?
In the mean time, I use this when towing. It is disturbing this is necessary on an $80k truck, but it will get real ugly if this thing opens while towing. It is easy to slip off when I want the tailgate to open.
