You can do several things to make this easier. You can park the truck so the tailgate is facing the sun on a nice warm day or you can use a heat gun to warm it, by warming it the job is much more easy to remove the stick on emblem. To finish the job, (before hand) go to an automotive paint store, hardware store or go online (eBay/amazon) and find an "eraser wheel" which is just like a pencil eraser but most times comes with an arbor to chuck up in your drill and using this will take the adhesive off like you wouldn't believe without hurting your paint or clear coat once you peel the emblem off. The eraser wheel should have some instructions with it or check out using one on youtube. Your fingers, finger nails, arms and mind will thank you. It makes a slight small mess when used but cleans very easy, like wiping off dust. Hope this helps.
Anyone have any tips/tricks removing the tailgate emblem? This is the one in center of tailgate not the Platinum one. Thanks.
It's really tough. The adhesive they use is very strong. I ended up buying a new emblem after removing mine because of the marks I left removing the old one. I used a big plastic putty knife to pry mine off. the heat gun and/or sun is a good idea
I’ll be taking my front and rear off soon to get painted to match my truck. I plan on heat gun and fishing line for the rear one. Front one I believe is 3 bolts
I just replaced mine with new paint matched badges from OEM Auto Art. The rear badge is a brute but it did come off intact. I taped around the badge with painters tape to prevent damage and used trim removal tools to pry around the edges. A little assist with a heat gun makes things much easier. Once I got it starting to free up, I used my fingers to gently pull it off. Cleaned everything up and applied new 3M tape to the new badges. The 4 round clips really don't do much to secure it in there. Good luck.
