what lock are you using? I have been thinking I need a lock on mine.
this is the one I have at the moment.. tailgate lock
i had the pipe clamp, but needed to take the tailgate off too many times
almost never took the tailgate off on my 2012...
I don't think so, mine is locked on and I didn't provide the key when I took it in for this recall
That's funny, exactly why I was asking. The recall was done on mine last week. Yesterday I was looking around for the special wrench for the tailgate security device. I can't find it and was wondering if they took it out of my glove box and did not put it back or if I'm having a senior moment and can't remember where I put it; most likely the latter.
This is the device I have. They are located near me; I'll have to run down and get another wrench. Yeah, I know it only keeps honest people honest, but it makes me feel a little better.
Does anyone know if they have to remove the tailgate when they are performing the wiring recall?
No, they do not have to remove the tailgate for the recall. They replace the switch on the tailgate, and splice into the wire harness on the drivers side of spare tire. So check that real good after they get done. I had to retape all the wiring as they did a crappy job.
I had the same situation with the crappy wiring job. They installed two new connectors which make fishing the wires out when removing the tailgate a royal pain. Also they did not supply covers for the new connectors so I'll have to find a way to seal them up when the camper is loaded.
