Been with Good Sam for 4 years now, but the policy runs out in October. I have only call on them once to help out and that was to tow a car from Greenville SC to Anderson SC. Both decent sized cities with plenty of support on standby.
The call to GS was easy and quick. The tow truck showed up about 30 minutes later and I was on my way.
I too am shopping around a bit and will be subscribing to this thread. I have heard horror stories from each of the RV/trailer roadside assistance companies. The roadside assistance company is at the mercy of the towing company that was hired out to resolve your issue on the side of the road. There is no RV/trailer roadside assistance that has their own employees out and about towing and "rescuing" RV's.
Happy hunting and I will be watching...

@jsm180 , did you use Geico's assistance when you needed help with your 5th wheel or just with a vehicle? The level of support required makes a world of difference when shopping around.
While I can't (read WON'T) throw favorable bones towards Geico many years ago (25?) they treated my wife well when she locked herself out of her car (not once, not twice, but three times).
Then, after about 30 years of loyalty I subsequently found them to to be the highest bidder for my combined home and vehicles.
Onward to State Farm - and then onward to USAA.

Thanks in advance for your comment!
The issue was with my truck but I was pulling the 5th. I had to pay a little extra for the 5th to be towed but it was very reasonable. First tow was to a Ford dealer that didn't fix the problem, second tow a day later and 60 miles further down road to a diesel repair shop. Geico offers roadside assistance for rv's but I chose to just carry it for the truck and pay the extra for the 5th.
Get the Good Sam Club Roadside Assistance plan. Get it for as long as they'll allow for the introductory price. I think I paid something like $60 for 3 years. After that it went to $419, so use those three years to find a better plan.
What I discovered in our area was all the services used the same towing service it was also the same for mobile tech service onsite. May be the same other places. What I did discover is if you are broke down in a campground, Good Sam would not tow the truck and fiver, only the truck since they said the fiver was safe where it was even though I was stuck in a space in a full campground with the next camper waiting for the space. Now we just have the roadside service that comes with our truck and camper insurance (yes, we also insure the camper).

@Army RET , right, but USAA does not offer roadside assistance for RV's. At least not that I could find shopping around on the website anyway. I have been with USAA for 20 years for home and auto insurance. I assumed that Tugboatguy is asking about roadside assistance in the 5th wheel sub-forum because he would like to know about assistance with the tow vehicle and 5th wheel. I could be wrong though...
If you have 5th wheel roadside assistance through USAA, please do tell!
I had to use the GSC Roadside Assistance once. They farm the tow out to whatever tow company they can get there. The truck that arrived was not their prime truck. It was very loud in the cab, quite messy. We had to stop for fuel and I thought I was going to have to loan the guy money to pay for the fuel.
I have Good Sam because of my fifth wheel. I have used them numerous times for blow outs on the trailer and a couple of times for my other vehicles. As it has been mentioned earlier All of these companies are at the mercy of the contractors they work with.
We have had a couple of cases where the first tow truck dispatched never showed up, really sucked at 3 in the morning, but how the react when this happens is good, they have always made it right.
Yeah I don't care for all the "marketing materials" (spam) but I have been happy with them
Look into Coach Net, major break down towing 35ft 5W in CO. Two trucks sent one for the truck second for the camper. Camper to RV park & truck to repair shop, bill $900+ and all I had to do was sign the invoice, costs a little more but worth it. I have had them 6 years and they have clanged a couple flats, once they didn't have me even sign, drivers said he had already been paid. Research Good Sam's and read all the negatives on poor service then try Coach net. They cover getting my RV home should I become unable, the wife does not pull the 5W and way too many other perks to mention, I'll never change.

The towable policy at Coach-Net.com ends up being more expensive that what I paid for the Good Sam Club policy.
Coach-Net: $179/yr x 3 years = $537
GSC: $419 for 3 yr policy
I'm not saying Good Sam Club is better or worse, but it's less expensive. GSC also covers my other vehicles as well as both my sons who are in their 20's and not living at home. Coach-Net covers dependents up to age 24 and living at home.
I for one will be looking into Coach Net over the next few days. The cost is negligible if they are there when we need them. Sometimes you get what you pay for, but sometimes what you are saving is not worth the frustration.
Based on this screenshot on my tablet, it looks like Coach Net covers more than just the trailer and tow vehicle. We have 4 vehicles between the two of us and travel with a chase car for ease of maneuvering when we get to the site.

Like I said originally it cost a little more, and covers other vehicles and family. Did you look at complains on the two? I'll bet not, buy what you want and hope you never have to call Good Sam's. Do your self a favor and check complaints on them.
