Add a hose to discharge line beside block so you can collect and inspect contents of filter. You may need to open valve and turn key on to push debris out of filter housing.
Rebuild the drain valve for ~$7 or replace it for ~$36.
Quick similar story. About 15-18 years ago, I was living in Atlanta (Marietta) and had a nice sized attached garage that the bedrooms were right above. Did a decent amount of work on my stuff and others. I had a friend who was a pretty good wrench and he had an old Toyota with that R22 engine you couldn't kill. We were putting a new head gasket on it and were spraying some brake parts cleaner, well my ex-wife comes busting into the garage obviously irritated and yells at us "What stinks!!??" and my buddy very dryly says "Your attitude...." Man I laughed so hard....and was in the dog house for a looong time on that one. To her credit, she DID find it funny.
Women are funny about that stuff for some reason. Mine runs around the house lighting candles when I clean my hardware. Then I sent her for a gun cleaning class at the gun club and the instructor had to open his big mouth about some sweet smelling cleaning agents. Now she's on the rag over my Hoppe's #9.

I like the smell of #9
Used gear oil, now that is rank to me.
You all should have the pleasure of smelling 7 week old paper stock/pulp that's been been mixed with some Coating and Release. That stench stays on your hands for a couple days no matter how well you scrub. Eating those next 2 days involves holding your breath when your hands are near your face

Had a couple of things in my life that smell so bad that it never goes away, just to think about them makes you smell it again! we will not go into details!
On the other hand, have actually boiled my issues down to bad fuel, spent 2 days not being able to get it to run, yesterday morning i go out expecting to have more issues of the same, NO fired right up purred like the ole girl!
i am how every going to put some love into her anyhow,
rebuild the fuel bowl, drain not working
rebuild the hpop , Hoping that will cure the ICp code on hard acceleration
i see that i am burning a little oil, not terrible but enough to keep an eye on, so i imagine injector seals, and probably a shim kit,( cold start issues)will probably replace GPs while in there
Have a fellow here that will rebuild my transmission says he can make it a pulling beast
I really don't care about Mods, just want good reliability need to pull my camper and boat this year and those to come
Chime in if you can think of any other items i should consider
