I noticed the last few days when towing a trailer that when I get on the pedal, as the truck shifts gears ( I think its from 3rd - 4th) I get a little 1/2 second squeal that sounds like a belt slipping? Not sure where its coming from.
So now this is happening without the trailer being hooked up. I have narrowed it down that the squeal happens when the truck shifts from 3-4 and my MPH are between 55-60. Doesn’t happen during causal driving only when you get on the pedal hard.
Could be a torque converter issue. It goes full lockup in 4th. Mine doesn't squeal, but it feels like its slipping or just half shifting going from 3 to 4. Dealer claims its perfectly normal, but it didn't shift like that when it was new.
Definitely have the dealer look at it. Or if you have Forscan see if you can correlate torque converter lockup to the squeal.

Just left dealership. They have no clue on the sound. Said it could be plastic/ rubber bushing etc. he told me it would take a week or two to diagnose but for me to keep and eye on it Incase it gets worse.
They said they would send a email to ford to see if anyone else had this issue and what the cause may be.
My '13 PSD had a similar sound... Couldn't figure it out. Only did it at certain RPMs, when shifting, under load.... You get the idea. Turned out to be an exhaust gasket after the muffler. The "collector" type gasket was split and under certain conditions, exhaust would escape through the split, causing a squeal sound. Easy, cheap fix. Worth a look underneath. Good luck.
I know it is been a few months. My problem still exists. It’s like clock work now.
here’s a thread bump for those who have this issue and may know what it is.
