Looking for input on how to add a Camera on back of 40 ft trailer. Seen camera kit Ford has but cable only good for 32 feet. Has anyone installed a camera that will link up with truck on a 40 foot trailer?
I added the factory ford trailer camera to my momentum 376 which is 41 ft. I had enough wire .if needed nichols manufacturing welding has extensions etc for the factory ford setup
I bought the ford factory kit, bought the extension cable from Nichols. If I did it again, I would probably go aftermarket that way it would stay on at all times(when I want it to). Not just driving down the road, but parking/maneuvering can be annoying with the factory unit, as it will not stay displayed when shifting from Reverse, to drive, back to reverse(idle speed, just moving over). You have to reach up there and hit Aux again.

I thought it did stay on as long as rear camera delay is selected on sync?
Furrion is whats on the back of my 43' 5th wheel. Stays on all the time driving, works great.
Scott that is what I am looking for. I want to be able to see behind me at all times. I was worried about connectivity issues being 40 Feet. Do you happen to know what model you have? I assume you just tap into running lights to power camera and there is a module somewhere else mounted in trailer
+1 on Furrion, I initially wanted the OEM Ford, but after using the other cameras, I wanted it in motion, and constant vs turning off when returning to drive from reverse etc.
I chose to wire power to the camera to the upper running light circuit, of the trailer, so it took no time. The only caveat is that for it to work, your parking lights have to be on, which I do anyway when towing.
That is same camera I have, Supposed to get new Toy Hauler Next week or two. Do you use monitor that came with camera or were you able to view camera on trucks screen through Sync 3?
If you give a review after the sale, they will send you a second camera for free. They will also send you additional cables for free if you need them. They have tons of cable options available.
I have heard too many stories of the wireless units not working properly at highway speeds so I went with this wired system above. So far it has worked great and the customer support person has sent me a free camera, and two free cables. I sold my original rig and left the camera on it with its original cable. They sent me a second camera and a new cable for my new 5er for free. They also sent me a cable for my new F-250 for free as well. You need at least two cables (one for the truck and one for the trailer) to be able to disconnect them at the hitch point.
I mounted it directly to the Furrion Prep System cover plate.
I switched to the Haloview 7108 (wireless) from the Furrion that was factory installed on my 40' travel trailer. Good resolution, no connectivity issues and I was able to add side cameras and display them all in one view. Like many of the others, requires a separate monitor. I installed a RAM ball mount in the storage bucket on top of the dash with 12V and USB power. Display ends up right under the rear view and the power keeps the cabling really neat.
I too went with the aftermarket wireless off brand to Furrion alot cheaper I think its haloview. Works great you have to power it up by turning on the trucks lights or running lights. I do believe the downfall is you have a seperate screen to mess with whereas the ford factory comes up on the 8 inch I beleve.
