Howdy folks. I bought a 1989 5.0 HO motor out of a Mustang for rebuild and install into my '56 F-100. It was an EFI motor that had never been torn down or had any major work done (that I could tell), but while I was tearing it down for rebuild I was surprised to find a fuel pump eccentric on the cam sprocket. Is this just something Ford did to all their motors at the time even if the were electric fuel pumps/EFI? Thanks.

I don't think so. My dad had a 89 E150 van with a 5.0 HO motor in it fuel injection, I did the timing set on it and it never had a fuel pump eccentric on it.
I wonder if possibly the motor was blown up and they got another motor as a core. You can leave the eccentric on as it wont do anything from what I have heard

Thanks Rusty. I guess that could be true, but after seeing the motor, motor mounts and other pieces and parts it sure looked like the original. I have found a couple of things around the internet that said Ford had continued to install the eccentric on EFI motors, was just asking here to see if anyone else had experienced this. Anyway, it appears I am set after buying a new timing chain cover and mechanical fuel pump (will be delivered late this week).

Its possible that they did. I read some where that the fuel pump eccentric was required as it was part of the imbalance which made no sense to me. They could have done that though and mine might have been changed out at one time before. I know they rebuilt the motor but when I took it apart the chain had so much slop in it, it looked like they tossed the same timing set back on the rebuilt motor.
