I got a 81 f100, it has been converted to a electric fuel pump years ago, then somebody took the fuel pump out of it, so now im wondering if it is hard to convert it to a mechanical fuel pump or should i keep it electric fuel pump? which is better?
If you have a EFI engine that has been swapped in, I am not sure what it would take. I have done the swap on a v8 but not a six.
If it's a older engine, then you need to look for the spot where the pump went, and see if you can install another. The electric pumps are ok, if you can find a good quality one. The problem is everything is made in China, and the quality is not that great. The fuel pump is one thing that could leave you stranded at the most inconvenient times.
The EFI 300 six can be drilled out for a mechanical pump. The boss is there and the cam is set up for it. There is a certain tool that minimizes the shavings falling in the block. I think I read about it on the FSP site. I wouldn't trust it myself though.
