This time they listened to me and my rationale for saying the system had a problem. The mechanic pushed the problem up to Ford and asked for permission to replace the TPMS receiver. Ford was slow to respond because of their manning shortage with the virus, but after a few days they agreed. I drove the truck 25 minutes home from the dealership, and then I made 2 one hour round trip runs to Home Depot. I'm pretty sure it's fixed because I can watch the tire pressure readings on my tablet using Torque, and the pressures are tracking much better than ever before. The pressures are updating more frequently and in smaller pressure intervals, which looks more like a real time indication of pressure. Before, the pressures wouldn't update for much longer periods, and I would often see the LR tire pressure stop updating. I'm optimistic and pretty happy.

Here is another symptom that I've researched to be true, but I didn't know this before. After the dealership replaced my TPMS receiver, the system has continued to work flawlessly, but what's also cool is my remote lock/unlock and remote start range has been fixed! The remote range on this truck has always been poor (like under 10 feet, and less if you are standing towards the rear of the truck). In fact, the previous owner got so fed up that he had an aftermarket remote start system installed. I didn't realize the TPMS system and the other remote features I just mentioned are linked!

So, the lesson for others is if you are having regular TPMS errors, does your remote function at the proper range? If it doesn't, your receiver is likely bad.

Here's an old thread that talks about this too:

If I toggle the code below will it reset the module or just turn the warning on and off?

I upgraded the solar charge controller in my 5th wheel trailer to a more powerful unit. After I hitch the trailer the TPMS fault warning often comes on after 20 to 30 minutes. (I'll address the Radio Frequency Interference issue with the trailer separately). I occasionally have the problem without the trailer. I would like a way to clear the fault (have it start over). It seems to clear the next day but I would like to clear it more quickly.

Thanks,
Kevin
You should be able to go into the BCM using FORScan and disable the TPMS. The DRW trucks come with the TPMS module but is disabled. Here is the data from the spreadsheet for TPMS

BCM

726-22-01 *0** **** **** TPMS Disabled BCM
726-22-01 *1** ABCD **** TPMS Enabled AB=Front Tire pressure converted to hex, CD=Rear Tire pressure converted to hex

My DRW is the same as the first line above.

If you have the problem without the trailer, how does the solar charge controller come into play?

I'll be putting two Victron Energy solar charge controllers in my trailer this weekend, not more than 8 feet from the TPMS receiver box.

Without the trailer I only have the TPMS fault every 6 weeks or so. The warning goes out the next day and is then fine for a while.

Almost every time I connect the trailer the fault comes in 20 to 30 minutes.

The new solar charger has a 40 A capacity (although it probably charging significantly less than that when I first hitch the trailer). It is located in the front storage area of the 5th wheel so very close to the left side of the tailgate. The old controller was less powerful and located about 8' farther back. The new controller case is plastic. I am going to cover it with copper foil and ground it to see if that will help.

I really would like a way to reset the fault (basically to just know that all the tires are good and it is a pain to see the alarm for a day).

Cheers,
Kevin

The old controller was BlueSky. The new one is EPEVER. PM if you want more info. (I don't want to hijack the thread.)

Cheers,
Kevin
