Guys, I have a question for those of you who have a 11-15 Superduty, regarding the factory option remote doir unlock and remote start.
How far away does your system operate from?
Mine is good for only 50 ft or so MAX most of the time it won't work until about 15 ft from the truck. Been trying to get the dealer to look into it, but got told today that in the owners manual it is only good to 30 ft. Plus I randomly get a tire pressure sensor fault. The sensors are fine, but since the TPMS and door unlock/ remote start share the same antenna I think the 2 are related.
Since my 2011 would work from 100 yards most of the time I call B.S. on the 30ft. I feel that the new truck should work at least as good as my old one.
Besides that 30ft is a complete waste, and virtually useless, in my opinion.
Unfortunately with the remote start that comes on the trucks now, that is about the limit.
You can add (at a cost of course) the components needed to use the longer distance one way and bi-directional remotes or the smart phone at that is more costly and requires a $50 fee each year
the longer distance one way and bi-directional remotes hang off the key ring.
Occasionally you can find the remotes for the one way and bi-directional on eBay. Here is the info on the back of the remotes. The info on the bi-directional remote is for the older style remote case without the metal for the key ring slot.
a few folks have documented opening the key fob and cleaning the protective grease off the battery and contacts, which has significantly improved the useful distance.
The factory key fobs are always going to be short range. Anything on or around the truck, and I mean ANYTHING, will greatly reduce the range.
For instance, I've seen people get their windows tinted and have their range cut down to less than 50 feet.
The long range upgrades that Larry posted will keep the factory key functional, and add the ability to remote start at a much longer range with the separate fob. Plus they are a plug in kit, so there's no wire splicing required. What also wasn't mentioned is that when you upgrade to one of those kits, you are also adding a full vehicle security alarm with shock sensor, so you're actually getting 2 kits in one.
And a correction on the part numbers for the One Way components:
DL3Z19A361A + EL3Z19G364B
Ford made a kit change on the one-way components to put the fobs and antenna in one box.
And of course there is always the old trick of holding your remote up under and making contact with your chin. It will use your body/head as an antenna increasing it's range..........yea, don't laugh, it works.
My 2015 is great. I feel bad for you guys. I would say try new batteries or cleaning like Sam suggested.
With the length of trailers I haul, I always have to park a ways away from the hotel (say 150 ft). My truck always remote starts.
I HAVE noticed that the lock/unlock will work farther away than the remote start will.
My '11 vs '15 is a world apart. In fact I use my remote, hold it in hand above head and push button to find my rig out in some HUGE parking areas around event centers with parking areas where there are 1000's of cars. My '11 was good for 50+ ft, but the 15 will reach out there and do it in the rain as I just tried the other day, I was a good 100 yds away on the S end of the Alamodome in San Antonio. I was parked in the very last and farthest parking spot, it was raining and I was trying to find the shortest distance to the truck...

I need to do that on mine.
This.
My range went fron 40ft to 300ft, $0. Clean the battery.
Someone on here reported intermittent TPMS trouble caused by interference from a cheap USB charger that was plugged in. If you have any plug-in accessories, you might want to temporarily unplug to see if interference is the problem.

From what I can tell, the remote locks and the remote start have separate receivers with separate antennas. I don't know where the lock receiver is located, but the location for the remote start receiver and antenna (at least in 2014 XLTs) is just above the glove box. From what I've read, the location for the antenna for the extended range, separate fob, remote start kit is between the windshield and the review mirror. Relocating the receiver/antenna for the standard remote start to that location would probably make a considerable difference. The cable would have to be lengthened, but that shouldn't be a big deal.
There are two different remote starters in Ford. You can change out what you have for one that has a antenna on the windshield for longer reception. You only have to have the dealer turn on the option for this remote.
Parts counter at a local dealer or online, both are options. Online is likely to be cheaper though. Where ever it be, just tell them you want part number BT4Z-19G364-A. MSRP is $270.
Here is a couple online sources you can check into. Both need to be called though as it is new enough that it is still not in the online system...
Tousley Ford Parts in MN claims they sell parts at cost plus 10% which is a very fair deal. That should put this unit at $210ish plus shipping. They are also a site sponsor. Here is a link to their TDS profile. Click on the about tab for contact info and such...
