Like it say I had a VGT issue.
I don’t drive the truck much and the turbo was stuck , and stuck bad . Truck is a 2003 with 227,000 on it and this is probably the fourth time I’ve cleaned it . Truck also has all the mods that make her live .
Ive had a hyper tech tuner and I used to just keep a tow tune in it . In November I took it out out her back to stock . Around Christmas I noticed the turbo getting worse and then totally stuck . Thursday I took it off and it was really gummed up and rusty again , unison ring was stuck on really well . So I clean her up got it back on yesterday and took her for a spin .
well just like it was stuck the vgt not working.
brought her back and checked for codes and none . So I was thinking the actuator was bad but no code for it .
so I decided to put the economy tune in just to see what would happen. Well all works perfect now turbo spoils fast as hell .
I just don’t understand why it didn’t work with the stock tune in it .
many ideas y’all?
just a guess, but it might not the the tunes but something else? maybe the relearn was not finished when you first tried it. Mine has been known to be completely gut less during the early relearn phase.
I don’t know about the tuning but...If you want to clean that turbo for the last time do a CCV reroute and you won’t be sucking oil vapor into the turbo. It’s the best thing I ever did to my truck for the health of the turbo and intake system.
Not being rude, just letting you know a turbo does not “spoil up” it “spools up”. I see that post here a lot.
You have one of my fav turbos (03-4) and I'd invest in a GT3782VA rebuild kit with new (brass) thrust, journal bearings, VGT solenoid orings, wheel/shaft, snap rings, seals, etc. Stick with Garrett/Honeywell parts --- kits are around $200.
Cleaning is only part of the problem with that mileage.

the truck has had the ccv reroute done for many years now , like 15 . That doesn’t make a difference.
I have 270k miles on my Excursion! Turbo stuck and after getting tired of repairing and replacing....I bought a new Turbo and learned I separated the inter cooler after all the work! You aren't the only one with this issue!
