Opening up a can of worms. Looking for Suggestions on brake rotors and pads. I’ve read people tend to like hawk pads, how about rotors? Don’t mind spending a few extra bucks if it’s worth it. I’ve read mixed views on the power stops with drilled and slotted. Any help is much appreciated.
Assuming your truck is a 4x4, I would go with Motorcraft NBRC-5-RM & NBRC-6-RM for front calipers, NBRR-13 front discs, and BRSD-1631 front Super duty pads. For the rear I would use Motorcraft NBRC-15-RM & NBRC-16-RM calipers, NBRR-8 rotors, and BRSD-1068 Superduty pads. Flush the system with thoroughly with Motorcraft DOT 4. This will give you the most bang for your buck. If you want a more aggressive pad with good manners, I would recommend the EBC Orangestuff Extra-Duty ED91777 front and ED91778 rear. These are really fantastic pads, unfortunately the regular price is very high. I have seen them show up briefly on amazon prime for a more affordable price. Except for the pads the above parts are Motorcraft High level service (means value line) parts. I have been pleasantly surprised by their quality, and in my experience so far they are equal to or better than the Napa Ultra Premium products. Good luck, Russ
No problems other than brakes just being worn. Bought the truck about a year ago and now brakes are about due. Stock calipers as far as I know of and have not had any of them stick or hot brake issues. I don’t tow a lot but when I do usually about 10k lbs. I drive the truck daily and am a contractor so I’m always hauling materials plus all my tools. Just looking for any input and seeing what the best bang for buck is when I change everything out in a week or two. Thanks!
I am a FIRM believer in Power Stop slotted/crossdrilled rotors and ceramic pads! I would never go to anything else. Had them on my Expedition and stopped amazing, never over heated them, and never had a issue towing 7k. Have put new rotors and pads on the back of my Excursion, waiting till spring to do the front, except I have a 2wd now and they aren't cheap!
You have a 2005 and that version of calipers are more prone to sticking then the earlier version. If they are not sticking I'd replace only when needed. The rotors noted by Russ above are what I myself would use if I didn't have NOS of the factory rotors. DOT fluid is a higher temp fluid but degrades faster than DOT 3. The stock brake system was extensively designed around the DOT 3 version. I'd only do DOT 4 if you are going to flush the brake fluid on a three to four-year basis.
Pads get into a weird area. The Motorcraft line up has had so many changes over the last half dozen years it more of a "public comment" area. Originally it was the Motorcraft line that was supposed to be better aftermarket, but now the Motorcraft has introduced "service line" into the mix, a lower threshold. I'm not a fan of EBC since they don't go through the process of getting the Federally mandated identification as other suppliers do.
The Motorcraft Super Duty versions are good for contractors. If you wanted to explore the higher friction, lower pedal effort type of pads I'd look at Power Stop Z23 line. I would not use their rotors.

Thanks! Truck is 4x4. I’m leaning toward the motorcraft. Having a little trouble finding the BRSD-1631. Are they the same as BRSD-1333?
I would like to ask everyones opinion on the SSBC billet calipers for the 05 and up Superdutys.I think that company is out of business now but were the calipers an improvement over the stock ones as far as sticking?
I stick with DOT 3 and flush about every other year.
This time I did the flush a bit early as I replaced all the hard and flex lines on the rear axle during an axle swap.
You know it's been too long if the fluid is nasty green or black in color.

I have the same ones on my truck with a daily weight of 12k I have been very happy with the Power Slot.
I have 160k on my ‘04 6.0l X. I have been through 4 sets of calipers, 3 sets of front rotors and 2 different types of brake pads. My current configuration for the past 30K miles is premium NAPA front and rear calipers, Hawk brake pads, DBA front and rear rotors and Russell SS braided brake hoses. No rotor warping or braking problems. It was not cheap but well worth it. Two years ago I had all brake lines replaced with copper nickel and my emergency brake, which was completely gone, replaced.
I just recently replaced all rotors calipers soft lines and pads with O'Reilly parts. All seems great except the dust. I plan on getting ceramic pads to fix that problem. My brakes work really well.
