I just had 3 recalls completed today. One was for unintended tailgate dropping.
We had an event a while ago where the tailgate dropped un-commanded when towing and damaged the front door of my 5th wheel RV. There was no damage to the tailgate but it put a hole in the RV front door. The door will be about $600 to replace with shipping form factory.
I called Ford Customer Service and they were clueless in processing a repair reimbursement. They said to have the Ford dealer repair it. DUH Or submit a original receipt of the repair to my local Ford dealership and they would evaluate it.
Has anyone been able to get reimbursement from Ford for this type of damage on an 5th wheel?
Yep same thing here, but it was last year before the recall....so everyone just assumed it was my mistake and "forgot" and left the tailgate down. $600 damage to my 5th wheel as well. Thankfully I only had to replace the top plastic trim piece on the tailgate.
Lucky to have a truck camper. Tailgate hasn't been on it since I bought the TC last year about this time. Only had it come down once. Chalked it up to maybe hitting the button on the key fob while it was in my pocket. So now I toss the key fob in the console, along with my phone and wallet and firearm while I'm getting in the truck.
I'm already in the habit of making sure I get everything out when I exit the vehicle, since they're so easy to get into.

How did the tailgate do that? Did you turn with it down?
