I recently bought this 5th wheel tailgate, pre-used. It fitted onto the brackets just fine but when I went to close it up, it wouldn't connect up properly on both sides. It closes on the passenger side but not on the drivers side.
looks to me like it is manufactured out of spec. I would return it and get a replacement. You could measure both sides from the pivot to the latches to make sure, they should be the same. I don't believe there is enough adjustment in the striker bolts to make it work.
I think you are right about it being manufactured out of spec! I have taken your advice and contacted the manufacturer - just not sure if they will do anything as I bought it 2nd hand. They do seem to be out when I measure. My alternative solution is to use some sheet metal and maybe some rivnuts and just move the latch up on the tailgate.
@Eco Catherine The striker bolts are adjustable,up/down, in/out, just loosen them up and move them a bit, snug and see if the tailgate closes. If you get lucky, tighten firmly and enjoy your new tailgate. The tailgate mechanism may also have some adjustments.
