I have a 2000 excursion v10 4wd. It won't shift out of first unless you lift off the gas. The shift is pretty smooth. I replaced the tps. The trans goes through all the gears and doesn't feel like it's slipping. Any help would be appreciated. I like this truck and want to keep it but a transmission isn't in my budget.
The first thing to do is to get the codes read. The places that read codes free CANNOT read these codes. You can download Forscan free at www.forscan.org. You'll need an ELM327 adaptor. I bought one from Amazon for less than $30.
Or you can take it to a good independent shop or a Ford dealer.
First, fix the speed sensor code. That could be a bad sensor, but most likely the problem is in the wiring between the PCM and the speed sensor. The sensor is the one on the rear differential.
Without correct info for the actual vehicle ground speed (rear differential sensor reports that), the computer doesn't really know when to tell the transmission to shift.
I appreciate the info. Using the speed sensor on the rear diff for that seems strange to me. Especially since the Speedo is dead on. Any tips for replacing it without a lift?

Should have a 10mm bolt holding it down. Remove that, pry it up with a flat-blade screwdriver and replace it in reverse order. Good idea to remove the connector first, as they can get stuck with all the dirt in them.
Make sure to check your wiring for damage, as that could be the problem vs a bad sensor.
The speed senor code cleared its self seemed to be related to the battery being completely dead. I replaced the ignition coils and it suddenly found the ability to shift all through all four gears on its own. It doesn't come out of first until 3500 rpm. Up to comes back with a range sensor code. Help!!!
