Before removing all of the starter bolts, insert a piece of threaded rod into one of the mounting holes. The threaded rod will allow the starter to hang in place and permit the removal of the rest of the bolts. Hanging the starter allows you to remove and install the starter from above.
More importantly, if working from below, hanging the starter keeps the starter from falling and hitting you in the face.
Good idea. You could just Locktite it there for re-installation and use a Nylock nut to secure. Or put a screwdriver saw slot on the end to make installation/removal easy.
P.S. Some of those ring gear teeth don't look long for this world.

If you look closely enough, you can see the red Loctite.

Another thing I've discovered is the inboard starter bolt is a bit hard to get started. I use an Allen head cap screw with a 5/16 hex bit on a 6" long extension to get it started easily.
My Dad had a friend with an old police car and was told by law enforcement that he could not own a car that had the word "police" on it.
When the cops stopped him for ignoring the rule he said look closely.
"POLCIE' was painted on the doors.
Texas has a law that you cannot simulate a police car, so this will not be driven on the road. Used almost exclusively for parking lot security at Falcon Club car shows.

Mine started pretty easily by hand. After that, a 1/2" Gearwrench worked for me.
I thought SCOTUS ruled in the last few years it's "free speech", they struck down laws prohibiting civilians from wearing military uniforms, Stolen Valor legislation &c.
Keep in mind, I think it's total BS, but then I'm a huge proponent of giving people what they say they want, good and hard.
I think in the case of having "POLICE" on the side of a car there may have been worries of some deviate showing up at a playground or motioning your wife to pull over on the highway and being easily mistaken for law enforcement, so yeah, I can see the reasoning behind it.
