I'm looking to replace injectors in a recently purchased 84' 6.9, are remans any good? If so, or if not, what are some good brands to buy for injectors?
I have ordered new Delphi brand injectors from rock auto twice now and both times they were reboxed o.e.m stanadyne injectors which I have been very satisfied with both sets. I have had several sets of reman injectors that were either junk out of the box or didn't last long afterwards. As much as everyone likes to bash Pensacola diesel their new parts and oem branded parts are just fine, just don't buy anything reman from them.
sinister diesel??? saw a set of 8 for 200 but looked too good to be true. Obviously i'll have them pressure tested before installation if i choose to snag them. I just don't want to waste my money on something that doesn't work.
your local Diesel Injection Shop should be able to test and clean them, and recondition them if need be too.
Before I bought new injectors from the parts store I contacted 3 diesel service shops in the OKC area to ask if they could service my injectors and IP. The first shop said they didn't service diesel parts that old. The second shop said it would be too expensive form them to rebuild the injectors and that my IP core was junk (he determined that by looking at it). The last shop just wanted me to buy new injectors from him. So, I ended up buying new injectors from the auto parts store.
If you buy injectors at the auto parts store make sure you get new ones.
Even that appears to be no guarantee. Some years back I bought a new set of Stanadynes from a well respected IDI source and the idle was so rough the shift lever rattled back and forth. After a few days, pulled them and had them tested while I watched and the pop off pressures were all over the map, same with the spray patterns. Next set was fine.

Ahh well I'm down here in South Texas and we are still in the dark ages.. they call us Northern Mexico
we just have so much old Marine stuff so I guess there is enough demand.

Central Texas here, we have enough agriculture stuff to keep the demand up as well.
Last I checked the most reputable local shop was 500 for a basic reseal and calibrate on the pump. Any hard parts were extra.
60$ a piece for injectors but at least they were oem stanadyne. I can get them about 100$ cheaper for a set online.
