Can someone please clarify for me what triggers the change fuel filter message? Is it triggered by mileage, time, blockage? If I don’t get the message, how frequently should it be changed? Owners manual says 22,500 miles, am I reading that correct?
thanks
Steve
The manual says by every 3rd oil change or 22.5k miles. I am now coming up on my 3rd oil change since I last changed my fuel filters. I monitor the fuel pressure from the frame mounted DFCM (diesel fuel conditioning module; primary pump/fuel filter/water separator) on my iDash 1.8. I've seen very little change in the PSI over the miles. Just a FYI. Very common here with the members to change them every 2nd oil change. Always use genuine Motorcraft filters. FD-4615 is the part number.
The message is triggered by the PCM. As above, many change it ever 2nd oil change or 15,000 miles.
Larry, do you know if the PCM takes into account engine load, gallons used, etc. like it does for oil or is it just a mileage based counter that triggers the notification?
Dirt....I can not say since I have never run the filters to the 22,500 mile mark. I would think it is similar to the IOL and monitor pressures, engine hours and more to determine when it needs to be changed or wait for the 22,500 miles.

Same here. Guess somebody that waits for the light will have to chime in to see if it triggers at the same mileage.
