Hi I have a 79 f150 with a 400. I built it myself and it doesn’t even have 100 miles on it. It just started making this noise from the valve train on the driver side. Upon further inspection I took of the valve covers and I notice oil shoots out of the passenger pushrods, but it kind of just comes out on the driver side ones. It seems like some oil restriction thing tor faulty lifters. But I just need some help, thanks.
What kind of noise is it?
And did you go through the proscribed "camshaft" break-in procedure right at the first startup? High speed for 30 minutes, no idling and all that?
If the valve covers are still off, I would check for bent pushrods.
I don't know why this is a thing, but for the last 15 years or so it's been an all-too-common situation after a rebuild that we have rocker arm, valve spring and pushrod troubles on these 335-series engines.
Never had that issue from the factory, and I really don't know what we could be doing so wrong, so often. But it's definitely common enough to make you look twice at your pushrods.
The gauge in the truck says it’s making good oil psi, I did follow the cam break in instructions and for some reason I cannot upload the video that I have but I will investigate in the pushrods
