This might be best suited for the towing forum. However I think that's general to all makes and models and years. I would prefer to hear from people that have my make model year. Also, I don't see this in the tech folders.
I don't have anything yet that I plan on towing that requires electronic braking yet. My boat doesn't have brakes installed, and if it did they are hydraulic which don't require a brake controller.
However, I would like to equip my truck. Just in case something comes up. I don't have to think about that aspect of towing. My assumption is the truck does not have a brake controller installed anywhere. What do you guys or gals recommend for a brake controller. I have a 2003, srw, 4 x 4...
I put a Tekonsha P3 in mine last summer for hauling RV's and it works well. Etrailer has them for around $135. Should have the wiring harness pre-made for plug and play in your truck to where you just plug it into the truck end under the dash and plug the controller in. Couple of self tapping machine screws will hold it to the dash panel off to the right of your right knee. If your 7-way plug still works then the controller is all you need. They also make a circuit tester that plugs into the 7-way which is a lot easier than using a test light. Those are about $25.
Tekonsha p3 it is... 3 out if 3 recommendations.. that's the one.. I actually like the way it looks to.. and it's in the right price range.. Thank you!!
I tow with my Tekonsha P3 everyday and it has performed well. I did have a problem with mine about a year after I bought it and they sent me a brand new one no questions asked. You can't beat that with the stick
Do you guys get any of the redarc stuff there?
I would say their brake controllers are the most popular down here. Most recent is the tow pro elite
Then next popular is the Tekonsha
Although I have only used it for one year of towing with electronic brakes, I would also recommend it. If you get the pigtail for your truck, it should be plug and play.
it also does hydraulic also and saves tow settings for at least 2 different tow units.

Bsillian,
I'm getting ready to buy this from Walmart for 110 bucks.. but the pigtail, that won't come with it? I'm not seeing package contents on the website.. some others sell it for 140, but I'm wondering if that comes with the pigtail.. Do you have a link to the pig tail? And if the package doesn't bring one I can purchase separately..I want plug and play. I'd assume all vehicles have different wiring and harnesses, so the pig tail should be specific to my vehicle 2003 f350 srw 7.3
